Back in April of this year, my husband and I started looking for a condo to buy because the lease in our apartment would be up at the end of July. Organized and thoughtful, we planned to buy a condo and move out well before the end of the lease. This was not our first real estate adventure and we oozed confidence.
Both of us are positive thinkers. We expect the best outcomes, we focus on what we want, not what we don’t want. I read books on the power of manifestation, better known as the Law of Attraction.
We spent several Saturdays going to open houses. We were confident we had plenty of time to meet our July end-of-lease-and move-out date, or so we thought.
As anyone who has gone through this knows, real estate is fraught with potential pitfalls, but we were still in the “everything will go our way” stage.
I had a list of deal breakers, things up with which I would not put.
- I wanted a villa not a unit in a multi-story building. I didn’t want to worry about anyone above or below us.
- I did not want to live near a busy road
I am sure the Universe, or whoever is in power up there, had a chuckle at our hubris as they cheerfully moved the pieces of our life on the chessboard.
