Since moving to Florida, I have become fascinated by some of the state’s more intriguing crime stories. And there are a lot of them. It may be my perception, but I think they are stranger than crimes in other states. Maybe it’s the heat or the languid days, or the promise that life is better here.
One of the worst crimes is the murder of Dennis “Scooter” Abrahamsen, 41, the owner of a tattoo parlor in New Port Richey, Florida, a working-class town on Florida’s Gulf coast.
On the evening of May 15, 2010, Scooter joined another couple for drinks at a local strip club. Towards the end of the evening, the three decided to extend the night of revelry with a romp at Scooter’s house. His home was set up for this with a hot tub and a massage table in the living room. He liked to have a good time, and a foursome seemed a great way to end the evening. Except that Scooter needed a date to make a party of four.
