Red flags are meaningless if they’re ignored

Phoebe Jonchuck wouldn’t live to see her sixth birthday because her life ended on January 8, 2015, when her father threw her off a bridge into the water below.

Life had never been easy for the five-year-old whose favorite colors were pink and purple. She was too young to realize she’d been dealt a rotten hand in life.

The beginning

Phoebe was born to Jon Jonchuck and Michelle Kerr in St. Petersburg, Florida. The couple never married and neither one held regular jobs. Michelle was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, which is why Phoebe was in Jon’s custody, though it wasn’t a legal agreement. Michelle hadn’t seen Phoebe since Christmas Eve. The couple fought constantly and were well known to Child Protective Services (CPS). Michelle had two other children who lived with her. Phoebe lived with Jon.

Later Michelle said that Jon and Phoebe had a close and loving relationship. Apparently, in denial about his history of abuse and erratic behavior, Michelle said she never expected him to hurt the little girl.
