My Husband Was Right. Again!
I have big feet, I am a BFW, Big Feet Woman. I had normal feet size 10 until my damn arches fell and pushed my tootsies into size 11. Now you wouldn’t think that was a big deal, except it is because shoe stores don’t stock many size 11 shoes for women.
I am here to tell you there’s a lot of discrimination in shoe stores. Our shoes are almost always on the lowest shelf, and there are only a few pairs and a limited number of styles to choose from. Sometimes in Nordstroms there are few pairs on the sale rack. A shoe that looks adorable in a size 7 (apparently the “ideal” shoe size) can look like a gunboat in size 11. Even desperate BFWs wouldn’t buy the defeated-looking oversized rejects on the sale rack.
Skechers Stores
I don’t like to name names but one store in particular bugs me. Skechers. There’s a local outlet store which is always busy. The boxes are stacked on the shelves so it’s a pick- your-size situation. But shoes in my size are never there. I’ve gotten numerous responses when I’ve asked about this strange phenomenon:
“Size 11??????”
“We only get two pair in that size every other Wednesday (Tuesdays, or Mondays)so come in on those days.”
